Mandatory Meeting for Running Candidates

There will be a meeting this Monday in room B471 right after school. We will be holding a workshop and giving out important information. This will be a mandatory meeting for anyone interested in running for an office next year. The following offices below are available for candidacy. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We will be having a meeting this Tuesday at 7:20 in Room B471. If you are interested in coming to the Pizza Party on March 30 (Monday), please come to the general meeting this Tuesday for more information.

We will also be discussing ways for you to become more involved in the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes is a non-profit organization that supports premature babies. On April 26, March of Dimes will be having the Walk for Babies at Brookdale Park, which is a huge event that FBLA participates in every year. There will be an Essex County meeting on Wednesday after school at Hot Begals Abroad. Please e-mail me if you are interested in coming to this meeting.

BHS FBLA recently attended the NJFBLA State Leadership Conference. At this conference we attended workshops, voted for the next State Board, competed and won numerous awards including 2nd place for Scrapbook. It was a great experience and we will be sure to share more with you at this Tuesday’s meeting.

Teddy Bear Sale

FBLA will be selling Teddy Bears from February 2nd to February 17th. FBLA members, if you are interested in selling Teddy Bears, please sign up in the School Store. Teddy Bears come in all shapes and colors. It’s a great gift to give to your friends for Valentine’s Day!

NJ North Central RCE

On January 7, 2009, Bloomfield High School FBLA went to Mercer County to the North Central Regional Competitive Events. It was a day full of exciting events! It started off with the Opening Session, where all of NJFBLA North Central gathered in the main gym as one. Then the competitions started directly afterward. BHS FBLA members competed in Intro to Business Communications, Business Communications, Ms. FBLA, Business Calculations and Sports Management.

After the competitive tests, students gathered in the Student Center to have lunch and check out the North Central VP candidate’s campaign booths. After lunch, North Central gathered in the main gym for a second session. During this session, voting delegates were able to ask the prospective candidates questions at the VP caucus.

After the caucus and voting, Bloomfield FBLA entered the Trivia Contest. Questions about FBLA history and random trivia were asked to all of the schools.

Holiday Wrapping

After school on Tuesday, December 16 2008, Bloomfield High School’s FBLA went to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey. Once we got there, we went right to work; cutting, taping, labeling, and wrapping presents for all the kids that have to spend their Christmas at the hospital. We worked with another group and in total we wrapped around seventy presents! Bloomfield High School will definitely be going back to help as well as donating more gifts.

School Store Grand Opening

On December 4, 2008, Bloomfield FBLA School Store had its grand opening at the 8th Grade Oreintation Night. It is the first time Bloomfield FBLA will manage the School Store. BHS has been without a School Store for 5 years. It used to be run by the Student Government Association. Both students and parents showed their enthusiasm and support for the grand opening during the 8th grade orientation. Administrators, teachers and guidance counclers were very excited about the opening and frequently visited the store throughtout the evening. The store will be open every lunch period and before school with FBLA members running it. The School Store will be selling t-shirts, key chains, bottled water, bags and other items that have Bloomfield’s logo on them.

The School Store is located adjacent to the guidance office and across from the Key Club office. Please note: if you have not turned in an application for the School Store and you still want to apply, the last day to do so is this Tuesday.

Holiday Gram Sale

Starting December 1st, FBLA will be selling Holiday Grams! Holiday Grams include a decorative paper, in which you can write a message to a friend, and a candy cane. These Holiday Grams will be delivered to your friends during Homeroom, so be sure to know your recipiant’s HR when you buy a Holiday Gram. They come in two sizes; 1 dollar for a small one and 2 dollars for a large one. FBLA members will be selling during lunch so be sure to stop by and buy one for your friends!

Bloomfield FBLA takes a field trip to Sony Wonder Lab

Game testing, movie making, TV talent directing; who wouldn’t want to experience the extraordinarily versatile technology at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab? On November 19, Bloomfield FBLA members toured the vast mechanical Lab in Manhattan, New York. We partook in several activities such as hands on activities and virtual reality experiments where members got to show off their amazing dance moves in a high-tech fashion. Also, we performed as musicians for the others with oversized instruments like the drums and piano! The favorite of the group’s had to have been playing with the play station 3 on a high-definition Sony plasma T.V. Members got to be a beta tester for a day when we played video games that has not been released to the general public yet. The Sony Wonder Lab had many Sony products, both new and old, out for us to preview and interact with. While enjoying this entertaining technology, members also learned about signal traveling and vocal wavelengths, just a few of the educational offerings at the Lab. The perfect end to the perfect trip consisted of lattes at Starbucks and lunch at Cosi’s.

National Fall Leadership Conference

On November 14 – 15, FBLA from 31 different states gathered in Washington D.C. to meet. Jenna Leung from Bloomfield High School was among the 2,500 students that attended the National Fall Leadership Conference. Workshops were given by professionals and fellow FBLA students on communication, business, leadership and the organization of FBLA. The opening and closing sessions provided a highly motivational speaker that encouraged FBLA students to Get the Edge! Students were able to network with other FBLA students all around the Eastern Region which includes Canada! It was an incredible experience and an eye opening conference to the National FBLA world. It served as a great preview for what is to come at the National Fall Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California!
